If your company was a bit late to dive in with both feet and start using Windows 10, you’re probably still working on getting used to the OS. Although Microsoft has worked diligently to create an OS that is more intuitive and user-friendly across a number of different devices, there’s always a bit of a learning curve as you and your team try something new. In order to ensure that you have the best possible experience with Windows 10 for your enterprise, we’ve compiled a list of a few smart settings that you can customize in the Windows 10 OS for optimal business performance.
Control Feedback Notifications
In order to ensure that users are completely satisfied with the Windows 10 experience, Microsoft has included a “Windows Feedback” application. To motivate users to actually engage with the OS and share their reactions, though, the company has set up the OS to frequently show pop-up banner notifications that ask for feedback after performing specific tasks. Although it’s always a good idea to send your thoughts to Microsoft as a convenient way to improve user experiences, you and your employees may be going nuts with all of the pop-ups. The good news is that all you have to do in order to change the frequency of these notifications is to update your privacy settings. You can choose from “Automatically, Always, Once a Day, Once a Week, or Never.”
Clean Up Your System Tray
If you’re not one for a cluttered desktop, this tip is for you. In previous versions of Windows, you were required to navigate through several channels to figure out how to remove certain system tray items like your Clock, Volume, Action Center, etc. With Windows 10, however, you only need to visit Settings App > Notifications & Actions and then turn systems icons on or off to determine which should appear in your system tray. In this same vein, you’ll also be able to easily manipulate the program icons that can appear in the lower right corner of your screen. The setting for selecting which icons from which apps will show up on the taskbar is also in the Notifications & Actions area. This makes it easy for you to clean up your system tray for maximum performance.
Manage Which Apps Run in the Background
The Windows 10 OS offers a brand new feature under your privacy settings that provides individual users with a lot more control over the applications that can run in the background. Although a similar feature was included with Windows 8.x, it was overly complicated and confusing. With Windows 10, all of the settings are unified in a single place so that you can select which apps you want to allow to run in the background from a list of all Windows apps installed on your system. Doing so can help your computer run more efficiently and effectively for a more productive workday.
Personalize Your Start Menu
One of the things that people love most about Windows 10 is that it brought back the beloved Start Menu from Windows 7 (with some cool upgrades). This Start Menu features three listings for “Most Used,” “Recently Added,” and a list of places like File Explorer, Settings, etc. Although many people find it useful to be able to quickly access frequently used or recently added applications from the Start Menu, others don’t like to constantly see a list of the apps that Windows 10 thinks they want to see. If this is the case, you’ll be able to personalize your Start Menu under Settings > Personalization > Start > Customize list. Here, you can turn lists off or remove certain apps from your lists.
